Aitch Contracting & engineering management

C-04The practice

A contracting and engineering-management practice.

The practice covers structural design, construction supervision and the management of finishing works, for residential, commercial and institutional projects.

Project scale ranges from a single residential unit to multi-unit developments. The method stays the same: a written scope of works, an approved programme, an acceptance record for each stage, and a handover file at close-out.

An engagement can begin at any phase of a project: land without drawings, an approved drawing set, or a project halted at finishing. A site visit and a technical assessment of the existing works precede this, and determine the stage suited to starting from.

Working method

The procedures applied on every project, from scope approval through to the handover file.

  • A written scope of works

Items, quantities and specifications are set out in a single document, approved before work begins and referenced at every later stage.

  • Documented stage acceptance

Each stage closes with an acceptance record, a site survey and photographs before the following stage begins.

  • Variations approved before execution

The cost and programme impact of any variation is assessed, documented and approved in writing before work proceeds.

  • A final handover file

As-built drawings, test certificates, warranty documents, inventories, and operating and maintenance manuals.

Range of clients

  • Individuals

Private residential projects, from land through to furnishing.

  • Developers

Repeat units to a single specification, on a programme that can be tracked.

  • Institutions and government

Documented scope, reporting and deliverables that meet review requirements.

  • Halted projects

A technical assessment of existing works and a restart plan with a defined scope and cost.
